Heading for the Hills
I am considering the investment of a police scanner to keep track of events in my area. When SHTF I would like to know at the exact moment China-Mart gets over run by hundreds of idiots trying to get supplies when it’s already too late. At that point I will be moving my supplies from storage ( I live in an apartment outside the city) to several different locations out in the sticks. My only hope is that everyone will be too busy fighting over canned goods in town to allow me the time I need to get my supplies to safety.
There are alot of old hunting/logging trails in my area. Once my supplies are secure I’ll hook the camper to my truck, shift into 4×4 and drag that sucker as far down one of these dead-end trails as I can get it. Cover the trail entrance (and the camper) as best I can and hope for the best.
Just because you live in an apartment doesn’t mean you don’t have options. Storage costs me $50 a month. I’ve got a 2 year supply of food for 2 adults/2 children all packed in 5 gal. buckets which I sealed in Mylar bags with 2000cc oxygen absorbers. My camper (27 ft.) was $500. Soon to be installed is the M-1941 wood stove, composting toilet, solar panel to charge my Coleman 9W fluorescent lanterns, Katydyn 2 gal. Ceradyn water filter (a little expensive) $200 on Amazon but capable of up to 39,000 gal. of clean water which you really can’t put a price on.
I think at this point PREPS have become more like a hobby for me. It’s peace of mind in an insane, unpredictable and dangerous world. Like the man says… “prepare for the worst and hope for the best” I’m just not sure I’ve got the energy left for a “plan B” …. lol. Good Luck! ~Dave~
